Our Story

Clay&Whisk began in 2018 as a small pottery studio in the countryside, founded by Emma and Marcus Reynolds – longtime friends who shared a passion for traditional craftsmanship and sustainable living. Their journey into pottery started years earlier during their travels through rural communities across Asia and Europe, where they witnessed ancient pottery techniques being preserved by dedicated artisans.

Inspired by these traditions and armed with knowledge passed down through generations, they returned home determined to create a modern pottery studio that honored these time-honored methods while creating pieces suited for contemporary homes.

What started as a modest workshop with two pottery wheels has grown into a thriving community of skilled artisans. Today, Clay&Whisk employs eight dedicated craftspeople, each bringing their unique perspective and specialized skills to our collection. Our team includes third-generation potters alongside those who discovered clay later in life but share our commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

Every piece that leaves our studio represents our core values – sustainability, functionality, and beauty. We source our clay from local suppliers who practice responsible extraction methods. Our glazes are formulated in-house using non-toxic materials, often incorporating natural minerals that create our signature earthy palette.

The creation process remains intentionally hands-on and unhurried. Each piece is thrown on the wheel or hand-built with careful attention to form and function. After initial shaping, items are dried slowly, trimmed to perfection, bisque fired, glazed, and then high-fired to temperatures exceeding 2200°F – ensuring exceptional durability while maintaining the distinct character of handmade pottery.

Beyond creating beautiful products, Clay&Whisk is committed to preserving and sharing pottery traditions. We regularly host workshops for all skill levels, collaborate with local schools, and offer apprenticeship programs for emerging artisans. Our studio is a place where community gathers, skills are shared, and the ancient connection between humans and clay continues to thrive.

When you bring Clay&Whisk pottery into your home, you're not just purchasing a bowl or mug – you're becoming part of a continuing story of craftsmanship, connecting your daily rituals to traditions that have sustained and enriched human culture for millennia.
